Toddler Room

The Toddler Room is for children aged 2-3years. This room has three tables at children’s height on which activities are laid out for the children to enjoy and explore. These activities are related to the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework to help encourage and promote all areas of children’s learning.
The activities that are offered in the Toddler room are vast and changed daily in relation to the needs of the children, there are many things for them to enjoy such as jigsaws, many small world models such as farms, garages, train sets, happy land there are also many different types of construction materials, threading activities, and lots of different games for them to play and enjoy.

There is also a touch screen computer in the Toddler Room which introduces children to ICT and gives them many opportunities to explore and learn about using a mouse and pressing the buttons on the keyboard. We have age range appropriate games on the computer which not only encourage the children to learn about the computer but help them to develop their skills with recognising shapes and colours and matching them together.

The Toddler room also has a hard floor area for messy play activities which are conducted on a regular basis these include many media’s such as shaving foam, hair gel, baked beans, instant snow, mashed potato, paint, glue, glitter and many other materials. There is a sand and water tray which gives children chance to play with these materials as and when they like, these are sometimes changed to bark, compost or shredded paper dependent upon the interests shown by the children in the room.

We also have a mark making table by the story area on the carpet which is always set up with paper, pencils, felt pens, crayons and scissors for them to explore and enjoy and let their creativity flow.

The story area is quiet and cosy, it’s is surrounded by gentle colour fabrics to give it a relaxed and private feel and gives the children the opportunity to sit and look at the books and to have some quiet time, there is a range of books available for them to enjoy and look at, either with their friends, a practitioner or on their own.
There is also a home corner area, giving the opportunities to role play and to explore real food such as carrots, celery, rice, pasta, giving them chance to relate their play to the real world and helping them to pretend by make believe.

The Toddler Room shares the outside area with the Pre-School children and the children from the Local Authority Nursery so children have the chance to play with others up to the age of 5 years, giving them role models to learn from and a wider group of friends. The outside area is equipped with a big climbing frame that has a slide and fireman’s pole for them to explore, this is monitored at all times buy a member of staff to ensure children’s safety, there are also bikes, hoops, cars, balls, chalks, stilts blocks and many other outdoor toys for them to enjoy, there is both grassed and soft play area’s outside.
