Pre-School

The Pre-School room is for children aged 3-4 years. The room is equipped with tables for the children to sit at to engage in age appropriate activities such as puzzles, lotto games, threading, small world models and construction. The Pre-School Room also engages in older activities to encourage children’s independence such as cooking and baking. The children also have the chance to look after the goldfish in the Pre-School room which encourages them to understand about other living creatures and helps them to understand about caring and looking after living things.
The Pre-School room encourages ICT through the use of an interactive white board, helping children to build upon their computer skills whilst encouraging hand eye co-ordination and developing many more aspects of their abilities through age appropriate games.

There is also a sand and water tray available every day, the Pre-School room aims to help children develop their independence through giving them the opportunities to choose their own toys for water and sand play, therefore giving them the chance to play and explore with toys that interest them and build upon their knowledge and understanding. There is also an easel that is available every day equipped with paper, pencils, chalks, crayons and paints allowing children to always have an outlet for their creativity and mark making abilities, giving them the opportunity to choose which media they prefer.

Pre-School also has a home corner area where children can play with real food such as chopped fresh vegetables, rice, pasta, dough, mashed potato and many other materials and use these to recreate real life and enjoy pretend play, and just to the other side of the home corner is a dressing up rail! Allowing them access too many different types of clothes to aid in make believe play and role play.

The Pre-School room puts a lot of emphasis on independence and encouraging children to use their abilities to play explore and learn. There is a water machine that children can access themselves as and when they need a drink, the activities of the room when put away are available for children to access themselves and choose to play with, if any are not easily accessible staff encourage children to let them know if they want a particular activity, ensuring child’s choice is a focus of the Pre-School environment.

There is also a lovely, quiet story area for children to relax and look at many different types of book’s, this is an area that can be used for children to relax in with their friends or on their own but is also used for circle time too! Where stories are shared, songs are sung and other activities take place which encourage children’s personal, social and emotional skills.

Pre-school children also share the same outside area as the toddler room, this is very big and gives them chance to express themselves physically and use up all that energy that Pre-School children have! For a more thorough description please see Toddler Room environment.

As well as having a large outside area for them to enjoy, as we are close to Stoke rail station, we often take the children on numerous train ride experiences to visit different parts of Staffordshire.

If you would like to come and see our Pre-School room please come and pop in for a visit it would be wonderful to see you!
