Forest School

Forest schools is an activity for the older children in the nursery where we take them to our woodland on a weekly basis. These sessions are led by the 3 staff who are level 3 Forest School Leaders.

The potential outcomes of Forest School go far deeper that the usual classroom environment can provide, some of the benefits that the children can experience from the Forest School ethos include,

  • Increased self-esteem and self confidence
  • Improved social skills
  • Development of language and communication skills
  • Improved physical skills
  • Improved motivation and concentration
  • Increased knowledge and understanding of the world around them

Forest Schools empowers children to take responsibility for their own learning and development, the children are supported to take appropriate risks and develop trust in themselves and others.

The 7 areas of learning within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum are covered during the Forest School sessions, but in a way that cannot be achieved in the classroom environment thus enhancing the children’s learning and development.
Also a part of Forest Schools experience is the use of tools and fire. The children get introduced to using various tools under a 1:1 with the staff and the safe use of fire is also a part of the experience (this might be scary to the parents!) but the children are gradually introduced to the tools and fire sessions.

Please ask the Forest School leaders for any further information.
